Michael Pomarico

Michael possesses over 38 years of extensive hands-on planning, design and administration of construction for healthcare facilities and medical environments and has performed services well over $1.5B in healthcare systems architecture.

Over the course of his career, Michael has programmed, planned, and designed virtually every aspect of the healthcare delivery continuum. These include assisted living facilities, medical office buildings, highly specialized medical systems in over 27 CardiacCatheterization/Electrophysiology Labs, Angiography, PET/CT Rooms, Linear Accelerators, MRI/CT installations, surgical and integrated operating rooms, clean rooms, pharmacies, and other sophisticated diagnostic and treatment program areas. Additionally, he has designed facility master plans for 6 hospitals.

Michael has worked with more than 36 health care clients and has been involved in or completed well over 2,000 unique projects, studies, and analysis, many of which were performed for repeat clients. Having dedicated his entire professional career to the understanding of the healthcare delivery process, environment of care and all technical aspects of hospital systems design, he has complete understanding of building and life safety codes, regulatory requirements and healthcare construction techniques, including extensive experience with health department submission and review processes.

Michael is accredited by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and is a member of the American Society of Healthcare Engineering and is a member of local ASHE Chapters in both NY and NJ. He currently sits on the Center for Health Design Environmental Standards Council which is engaged in ongoing standards-related initiatives with the Facility Guidelines Institute, Joint Commission and other accrediting and regulatory agencies. The ESC is a volunteer group committed to improving the regulatory standards of the Guidelines for the Design and Construction of Healthcare Facilities. Michael is also Cal OES Safety Assistance Program Certified to provide professional architectural assistance to local governments in safety evaluation of the build environment in the aftermath of a disaster.

Michael was honored by the New Jersey Alliance for Action in February 2013 for his innovative creativity and design on a leading healthcare and construction project at HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley. He recently co-presented at the 2021 Healthcare Design Expo with The Center for Health Design's new Functional Programming Process Guide will help facilities marshal their forces and coordinate those collaborative efforts to develop a functional program to inform decision-making. Additionally, he was published in Outpatient Surgery Magazine (2007) where he contributed to the article “What will your OR look like in the year 2017” and in Electrophysiology Lab Digest (2007) for “Cath Lab and EP Lab Design Concepts”. 

In addition to PDS Architecture, Michael incorporated HealthRisk Technologies (“HealthRisk”) in 2004. HealthRisk is a firm dedicated to the advancement of monitoring and analysis of healthcare environments and has written software designed to improve the monitoring of life safety and infection control in the healthcare environment of care. He has proven experience in the development of Infection Control Risk Assessments, Interim Life Safety Measures, Construction and Renovation Policy and Procedure Manuals, Life Safety Survey’s, Statements of Conditions and Hospital Cost Center Management. Additionally he has mastered the capacity to successfully integrate this experience into project design features and construction documents to ensure life safety throughout the healthcare environment upgrade process.

 
 

Diana Marquez - Architectural Designer and Project Manager

Diana is a designer and project manager who works closely with sub consultants and clients from the Schematic Design to Construction Administration phase. She recently received her Bachelor’s of Architecture from NYIT and her academic design, Emergency Core Node has been showcased at the University of Puerto Rico as part of an international workshop meant to explore and research resilient recovery strategies for natural disasters. Diana has a vast range of experience and was involved in constructing homes for displaced families after Hurricane Maria.

 

Jay Patel - Architectural Designer

Jay is an Architectural Designer who collaborates closely with clients, subconsultans, and the entire team. He recently completed his Master's degree in Architecture from the New York Institute of Technology and his Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Nirma University in India. Jay is a licensed Architect in India and has worked on a range of residential to commercial projects. Jay is involved in research, design, construction documents, and with his skills in 2D and 3D media, Jay is an integral part of the PDS team. He is currently studying for his Architectural license as well as his EDAC certification.

 

Sam Santos - Architectural Drafter

Sam is an architectural drafter for PDS. He has worked as a designer, technical designer and architectural drafter and has experience in solar design, residential, commercial, industrial and institutional projects.

 
Saya Shimada - Architectural Designer / Marketing AssociateWith extensive training in graphic design in both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional modeling, Ms. Shimada works along side project managers, interior designers, engineers, and clients. In addition to aiding the team, Ms. Shimada is the Marketing Associate for PDS.

Saya Shimada - Architectural Designer / Marketing Associate

With extensive training in graphic design in both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional modeling, Saya works along side project managers, interior designers, engineers, and clients . She provides everything from code analysis to finished interior packages. In addition to healthcare planning, Saya is also the Marketing Associate for PDS.

 

Donna Richardson - Human Resources and Business Manager

Donna is certified as a Human Resource Professional, she developed the human resources department and is now the Director of Human Resources and Business Management. As an integral part of this firm, she oversees the day-to-day finance and business operations accountability for P&L, contract negotiations, vendor relationship management, financial reporting & analysis, employment law and all human resource functions. Additionally, Donna spearheaded an overhaul of benefits and practices by developing new systems and policies. In addition to working with various contract systems for clients, she has trusted alliances with multi-disciplinary internal and external channels including – clients, sub-contractors, vendors, municipalities and external agencies.

Jason oversees project ranges, budgets, schedules and client expectations which contribute to the firm’s ability to deliver successful projects and maintain long-lasting relationships.

Jason oversees project ranges, budgets, schedules and client expectations which contribute to the firm’s ability to deliver successful projects and maintain long-lasting relationships.

 

Martin Ward - Assistant Project Manager

Martin has over eighteen years of architecture experience in projects ranging from healthcare, commercial, single and multi-family residential, historic restoration and preservation, as well as commercial site planning and design. He works closely with the principal, senior project managers, and designers, on a variety of projects ranging from simple to complex, from schematic design through the development of final construction documents. Martin performs field investigative surveys for the initial design process, interacts with vendors, consultants, clients and construction team, as well as assisting with the construction administrative process.

Leanne Keator - Equipment PlannerLeanne is an Equipment Planner whose experience is comprised of working in many different office and project roles. Her software knowledge ranges from Microsoft Office to Adobe Suite programs to AutoCAD. As an Equipment Planner, Leanne has many working relationships with medical manufacturers. Her experience in projects ranges from assisted living facilities to specialized medical rooms. Leanne’s primary role is to work closely with the design team and client to meet the needs of the space for the client while maintaining the aesthetic balance of the design.
