Rehabilitation Walk

Scope: Outpatient Infusion Center

Client: Lake Charles Memorial Hospital

Location: Lake Charles, Louisiana

Lake Charles engaged PDS to create a mobility & occupational therapy area above an existing second story rooftop in their three story enclosed atrium.

The scope of the project consisted of modifications to the existing rooftop structure to create usable space contiguous to the hospital’s existing inpatient physical and occupational therapy gym. Changes in elevation were created utilizing stairs, ramps, and platforms to simulate real-world traverse a patient would expect to encounter following discharge. A car was located at the focal point in the center of the walk to facilitate both patient and caregiver training of ingress and egress through a motor vehicle. Additional occupational therapy stations were installed along the perimeter of the walk to further bolster training in activities of everyday living fostering patient independence throughout their recovery.
